What is Hack the 6ix?
Hack the 6ix is Toronto's premier hackathon, where hundreds of university students from across North America come together to ideate and develop unique software or hardware projects from scratch. We enable teams to make something great in only 24 hours by providing an abundance of free resources like industry professionals, expert developers, designers, and food. Hack the 6ix is an initiative run by Nspire, a registered non-profit spanning across many Canadian universities.
What is Nspire?
Nspire is Canada’s largest student-run non-profit organization in the business and technology space. Our mission is to connect students and young professionals with industry leaders, empower their potential as innovative leaders and inspire action at events and opportunities throughout their university career.

Hacking
What if I've never been to a hackathon before?
No worries. Although it's preferred to have previous technical experience, it's not required. Just come eager to learn, excited to meet lots of awesome people, and most importantly, come ready to build and we'll help get you up and running.
Can I start working on my hack before the event?
No. In the interest of fairness, students may not be working on their projects before Hack the 6ix begins and we do not allow participants to bring in pre-existing projects. You can however familiarize yourself with all the tools and technologies you intend to use beforehand! All final submissions must be made from scratch during the event.
How does judging work?
A panel with some of the biggest names in tech will rate hacks based on creativity, technical difficulty, design, and usefulness. The top 10 overall projects will demo what they have built in front of all of Hack the 6ix during our closing ceremonies. New judges will be announced on a rolling basis on Twitter and Facebook, so make sure to follow us!
Logistics
Do you provide hardware?
If you have specific hardware in mind, bring it with you. We will be doing our best to lend hardware at the event. However, quantities are limited. More details regarding hardware availability will be announced closer to the date of the event.
